Welcome to Engineering at Northstar
Everything a new engineer needs for the first few weeks: how we build, when we meet, how to make your first change and where the docs are.
Northstar is a fictional company and this is sample content. Your team lead will tell you where our real practices differ.
Where do you want to start?
Each page answers one question you are likely to have in your first week.
How We Build
How a change moves from task to release, and which Training courses help.
Team Rituals
Stand-ups, planning, reviews and retros, and when they happen.
Your First Change
A step-by-step path from your first task to a merged change.
Where Docs Live
How to tell authoritative documentation from old notes.
What to expect across locations
Northstar engineers work from several offices and from operating sites where shifts run around the clock. Meeting times, tools and local practices can differ by location and role, so each page here says what is common to everyone and what to confirm with your team.
- Your first week: read these five pages, open the Training app and meet your onboarding buddy.
- Your first month: merge one small change and attend a full cycle of team rituals.
- Who owns this site: Engineering Enablement (sample owner). Send corrections to your team lead, who passes them on.
- When it is reviewed: whenever the team changes its build, review or release practice.
